If they have it setup to be automated you will get a welcome to comcast page with instructions to set it up. In other words you can skip the calling comcast step.

We have a Surfboard 6183 modem, a Netgear router in use in our home, and a Linksys router I'd like to add. I believe this requires two IP addresses, since we don't want to have a bridge/relay/extender set up. We'd like two separate main routers. Thanks for any info.
